Kvadrat owes a large portion of its success to Hallingdal, designed by Nanna Ditzel in 1965. This classic upholstery with exceptional wearability has been continually produced ever since Kvadrat was established in 1968.
Designer and architect, Nanna Ditzel, regularly updated Hallingdal’s colour scheme. During the last revision in 2000, the palette was restored to its original core of Nanna Ditzels harmonic colour scheme. All the non-essentials were removed and a few new colours added. Maharam periodically updates and introduces addtitional colorways. The present collection includes 62 colours, consisting of 52 originals and 10 new.
Hallingdal is an iconic mid-century period textile constructed with the original exceptional weaving specifications. It is perfect for upholstery, pillows, drapery, or mid-century period projects.

Maharam is my favorite commercial textile manufacturer of them all! Maharam was founded in 1902 by Louis Maharam, a Russian immigrant. Through the generations, Maharam evolved from a source of theatrical textiles for costume and set design in the 1940s to a pioneer of performance-driven textiles for commercial interiors in the '60s.
Maharam is recognized for its rigorous and holistic commitment to design as a leading provider of textiles to architects and interior designers. Maharam embraces a range of disciplines, from product, graphic, and digital design to art and architecture.
Maharam textiles are included in the permanent collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Stedelijk Museum, among others. Maharam is the recipient of the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum Design Patron Award (2007) for its longstanding support of design and cultural initiatives. Maharam Agenda was published in 2011.

Kvadrat is for mid-century lovers! Kvadrat sell their fabrics in the USA under the Maharam brand. Most of their fabrics are made in Denmark or New Zeland and are at least 50% wool. They are the perfect choice for redoing MCM furniture not only in style but also in a fabric respectful to the time period.
