With his 30th textile for Maharam, designer Paul Smith reinterprets a favourite motif – the classic stripe – through a compelling use of colour, pattern and scale. Continuing an evolution of Smith’s tailored menswear, Banner Stripe was actually inspired by the raw elegance of colour options for a shirt concept from his 2024 Autumn/Winter collection before being reimagined as an upholstery fabric. 

The archetypal result is defined by repeating thick bands in distinct hues, with a subtle luster in the worsted wool referencing fashion tailoring. Banner Stripe is at once complex and simply charming.

WOW! Paul Smith does it again, and he always blows my mind! Just beautiful. I don't know how his stripes are just so much better then any other stripes on the market. You would think someone would be copying him by now, but NO, he is the best! Not even Romo can beat Paul Smith. Just look at those chairs! KILLER! I should really keep this but I got a wedding coming up and i need the money! My husband is totally freaking out cuz his German family is coming to our house and he is on a cleaning franzy, I am literally hiding in the bedroom because his way of cleaning is not my way of cleaning.
